The shell command using grep on the output of free will not return anything with most locales,
hence returning void.
Calling free with env did the trick for me.

Thanks for the tip, I used bash -c "env -i free | grep -z Mem.*Swap.*" to fix it, which clears the environment used for the command so it falls back on the default locale.
