Should you avoid spaces in a tag? Should you avoid spaces in a tag?

Right now I have tags for people, and I have just been using a space in the tag. After seeing someone here using hyphens for first and last name, I'm wondering if there's a purpose I don't know about, such as if these will convert better in the future if there's someplace that doesn't allow a space in the filename. I'm not using plugins, so I need to figure out the best approach as I'm quite new to Obsidian. Thanks

Plugin or CSS snippet recommendations for better document readability? Plugin or CSS snippet recommendations for better document readability?

I use CSS snippets to fix line spacing and header size and all, but I was wondering if there was a plugin to easily do this or an existing CSS snippet that applies all the necessary formatting stuff, as the CSS file I made is quite messy and my actual Obsidian files still aren't turning out how I want them to look.

Mostly, I just wanted to:

  • fix header font sizes

  • minimize space after headers but add space before it

  • add spaces after paragraphs but not before it

  • make list spaces the same with paragraph spacing, except there are no spaces before and after

  • make table columns span the width of the document but retain the variability of each column width depending on the content (similar to dataview tables)

  • strict line breaks :(

I know these sound kind of all over the place, but as a stickler for document formatting, I guess I've just been wanting my Obsidian to look like my properly formatted GDoc documents hehe

My Obsidian Wish List My Obsidian Wish List

As an enthusiastic Obsidian user, I'm happy with the way it works and grateful to the developers for the hard work they have put into the app. I offer the following wish list in good faith and not as a bitch fest or criticism. Some of my wishes may have security complications of which I am not aware and others may be in the works. Some of these are partially achievable with plugins, I am aware but my desire is for more robust native functionality.

  1. A way to send HTML emails to Obsidian

  2. Notifications when files become orphaned

  3. Print as RTF

  4. Dataview queries that render when pasted (like Waypoint does)

  5. Native PDF searching

  6. Collaboration in the form of shared folders

  7. iOS/Mac share sheet integration (out)

  8. Built-in search and replace across notes

  9. Background syncing on mobile (in the way that email fetches in the background)

  10. Integration with IFTTT

Editing callouts causing obsidian to scroll to the middle Editing callouts causing obsidian to scroll to the middle

I use callouts for my notes because I like having multiple bodies of text and then collapsing, and then further adding bodies of text into a callout. As a result my callouts have callouts and those have callouts and so the parent callout is really large. My only issue is that when I am done typing it all out, sometimes I would want to edit a callout, but when I click, it selects all the information and not exactly what I want to edit. Even more frustrating is how obsidian scrolls to the middle of the callout rather than staying put and letting me edit what I want.

When to create a second vault? When to create a second vault?

Can you guys please tell me when it's good to create more than one vault? I currently have just one into which I'm putting everything. It's bits of notes from videos watched, books read, facts about creating and selling, philosophy, and religion. I am loving it.

However, I've kept a physical book of random bits of things I've read, like poetry and the like. It's really all the things that I turn to when I'm having emotional disruption or just generally want to reach my potential in various areas. I'm just now hearing that these are called "commonplace" books. I like the physical aspect of one, but it'd also be good to have it backed up and organized in digital form. Should I create a second vault just for a commonplace book? How would you organize a digital commonplace book? Is there a way to later print it out?

Wish I could just give up the physical/analog, but there's something so pleasurable about holding a nice book that's filled with pages of writing to flip through, writing that helps you sort out things in life and find strength. Poetry, quotations, and your own thoughts.

Open new file in a specific folder by clicking link?? Open new file in a specific folder by clicking link??

Hi all,

I'm a bit stuck and could use a bit of help.

I created a "home page" using templater. It looks fine, but I would like to have today's date appear on the page, so I can click the date and have a new daily note created inside my "Daily notes" folder.

I've been able to create the link using [[<% tp.date.now("YYYY-MM-DD-ddd") %>]]

This is the same format as all the other daily notes I've been making by clicking on today's date in the calendar, however when I click on this new link, it creates the new file ok, but in root (as opposed to my Daily notes folder)...

I'm a bit stumped. Thanks in advance if anyone could advice.

How to exclude URLs from Graph View? How to exclude URLs from Graph View?

I am using a web clipper that imports webpages. Many of these are Wikipedia pages. Wikipedia pages almost always include a bunch of URLs with the format /wiki/pagename . I’d like to exclude just these URLs—i.e., ones that that contain “wiki” in their string—from my Graph View, but keep the rest.

I have tried using -file:wiki and -path:wiki, but these get rid of too much, such as existing files that have “wiki” in their names. Adding the slash—e.g., using -path:/wiki—ends up excluding nothing. Escaping the slash with backslash doesn’t make any difference.

Is there any way to clip websites via a (self-hosted) service that connects to Obsidian Sync? I want to clip articles when I am at my work station, where I don't have my personal vault set up Is there any way to clip websites via a (self-hosted) service that connects to Obsidian Sync? I want to clip articles when I am at my work station, where I don't have my personal vault set up

I was thinking of a (self-hosted) web service where I can connect my Obsidian Sync to and can remotely submit URLs for clipping. Anything that does this?

In addition: Are there services to automatically clip any new item on an RSS feed?

I made my own take on the Border theme "Boundary" preset I made my own take on the Border theme "Boundary" preset
showcase
Boundary Soft - DarkBoundary Soft - Light

I feel like it has a softer appearance compared to the original Boundary preset, so I've called it that, to apply it go to the Style settings code for both themes and copy it in the "import" button on the style settings view.

I made this as part of my Starter Vault which I'll share for free when it's done, but for now the theme is available to everyone, I made it with Boundary and JustBlack presets as a starting point, and modified them to match and get closer to a look that I prefer.

Syncing Obsidian with ProtonDrive on Apple/Mac/iOS Syncing Obsidian with ProtonDrive on Apple/Mac/iOS

I have a Mac and iPhone and I am trying to sync my obsidian notes between them all outside of iCloud. I prefer Proton Drive due to end-to-end encryption, zero knowledge nature of Proton.

I am having trouble getting the Obsidian app on my iPhone to sync with Proton Drive on my iPhone.

I am logged into Proton Drive in both my iPhone and Mac. Doesn't seem to be an issue on my Mac when I open Obsidian I have a choice which vault to open and to "create new vault" or choose a vault location. with browse. The iOS app does not seem to let me do that.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks
